Day One. We woke up early to go to the early church service. After arriving late last week, I was determined not to be late this time. We left 15 minutes earlier, but somehow, we still walked in after the service started. The garage door decided to go on the fritz, and we hit every red light possible, but oh well, we were there! After church, we headed over to mom’s house to help her get her house ready to sell. I painted a wall, packed some things up and helped clean while Bailey played games on a tablet. She was pretty tired, so we went home.
After getting home, I cleaned the garage, did some laundry and attempted to mow the front yard. I bought this handy electric mower so I wouldn’t have to look like an idiot trying to pull start something I’d never be able to start. It’s a small yard so the electric mower should handle it no problem, right? Wrong. I was blessed with a yard full of crab grass. This crab grass has magical properties to grow at the speed of light, and it has made a deal with the devil so the morning dew never dries out. So, it clogs up my dinky mower after 2 passes and I’m still looking like an idiot while unclogging my mower every 5 minutes. But whatever, the yard is mowed and I did it myself, so I wasn’t going to let that get me down. While I was struggling with basic chores, Bailey kept herself occupied by blowing bubbles and playing with chalk, but after the grass was mowed, she wanted to take her pink jeep out for a spin. I had it charging in the garage, so we started off. We got to the end of the driveway before the battery died and I had to haul it back up the driveway. Idiot x2.
I gave up on household chores and ran away as any sane person would do, but just to the grocery store. Once we got home with groceries, I asked Bailey to help bring some bags in. She’s usually a good helper but this time she went full Pheobe Buffay and replied with something along the lines of “I would but I don’t want to” so she went inside and made herself busy with a game.
It was now time for dinner, I was already exhausted from the ridiculous day, but apparently kids need to eat. I was proud of myself for making a healthy dinner of chicken, rice and broccoli at which point Bailey chose to go hungry instead of eat any of it and I cleaned it all up by myself knowing I’d be eating chicken, rice and broccoli for the rest of the week.
Dinner was cleaned up and the only thing left to do was bathtime and bedtime and I was ready! I asked Bailey to pick out some jammies while I started the water and her response was “why do I have to do it? You can’t expect me to do everything!” We had a quick lesson on who had actually done everything and she soon realized that getting some jammies was in her best interest. And that was just day one..
